Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How long does your training program last? Do you accept dogs for shorter or longer periods?
A. The training is for 1 month. If the client would like additional or specialized training we can arrange a longer program. We do not offer shorter training programs, as we want to ensure that the dog has fully adapted to the training before returning them to the owner. We do offer group obedience classes that meet weekly for $150/month, and our private lessons are $50/hour.
Q. How much time will be spent training and exercising my dog each day?
A. There will be a half hour of training each day and two hours in the turn-out pens where they get exercise. Gundogs will be taken over to a ranch we lease to be worked on wild birds as well as domestic birds, so they encounter actual hunting situations.
Q. How much does your training program cost?
A. $600 for 1 month.
Q. Are there extra expenses (e.g. food, equipment) or is it all included in the price?
A. Everything is included in the training price.
Q. What behaviors or commands can I expect my dog to learn in the program?
A. We teach basic obedience which is sit, come, down, heel, and stay. For gun dog training, the dogs are taught to retrieve or point (depending on the breed), and will be whistle trained to change directions and come back to you.
Q. Can I request certain skills to be taught to my dog?
A. Yes, you can request certain skill training, such as crate training or hand signals.
Q. What is the minimum or maximum aged dog that you?
A. We like dogs to be at least 6 months of age so that they can better concentrate on the training. Puppies are very easily distracted. We do not have a maximum age limit for dog training.
Q. How will I know how to handle my dog after it has been trained?
A. You are welcome to visit to view your dog’s training in progress. And when you pick your dog up, we will show you how to work your dog so you can continue the training. You can also call any time and receive advice after you have taken your dog home.
Q. Are the kennels indoors, outdoors, sheltered?
A. Yes. All of our kennels are indoors and we have an arena where we train the dogs. We also have outdoor turn-out pens used for exercising the dogs.
Q. How long have you been at your current location?
A. Over 30 years.
